Trainer tip: broad jump and how it translates to explosive power? 

* The broad jump measures your lower body power and explosiveness which is related to how fast you can apply your lower body strength to a movement. Triple extension (hip/knee/ankle) of all three of your leg joints under load in one fast movement.
* To improve your jump, back squats are one of the best exercises to train the lower body. Olympic lifting (when done properly) will also contribute greatly to explosive power.
* The explosive aspect of the broad jump closely relates to how explosive your hips and whole body can move: strength training your legs with a focus on hip dominant movements with a fast twitch explosive movement pattern.
