November FitRewards Challenge - 3 min ARC Trainer

INFORMATION:
· You will be using a Cybex Arc trainer to go as fast as you can for 3 minutes with a goal of covering as much distance as you can (in miles).

 

RULES:
· Downtown: Use one of the newer machines, not the 3 overlooking strength floor
· Does not matter if it is a machine with arms
· Set the INCLINE on 10
· Set the RESISTANCE at : 100 – your age (if you are 25, your level is 75)
· Complete 3 minutes and record the distance


THE SCIENCE:
· Sprinting and short power exercises taking up to 30 seconds utilize “fast glycolysis” for energy
· After 5 minutes of cardio you are using “aerobic metabolism” for energy
· Exercise that requires sprint-like energy but is needed for 2-3 minutes fall in between and uses a system termed “Slow glycolysis”…this is an extension of anaerobic carbohydrate energy that starts to use oxygen
