Group Fitness: Class Highlight

This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility and balance. The circular and sometimes foreign movements of Tai Chi will stretch, rotate, and twist the muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

This mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating and preventing many health problems associated with age. Specifically, the regular practice of Tai Chi can improve muscular control and reduce the risk of falls in older people.

Additionally, Tai Chi benefits for stress management are huge. Tai Chi promotes physical relaxation. Regular practitioners of Tai Chi have also reported lower levels of depression, stress and anxiety, as well as lower blood pressure, more energy and stamina, and reduced inflammation.

Island offers a class on Tuesdays at 10:00am with John at the Downtown location. Come on in and try it!
