August Trainer Tip: Learn to Row

Learning to row:

When learning to row one must keep in mind that there is a sequence to the exercise, followed by the reverse sequence on the recovery.

The Catch: Start in the forward position with knees bent, arms extended and straight back.

Mid-pull: Engage the legs and lower back keeping the back straight as you push away with the legs.

Finish: Extend the legs fully without locking at the knee and pull in with the arms to the abdomen.

** HINT**

Think LEGS, BACK, ARMS when pulling away.

THE RECOVERY: When thinking about the recovery, imagine the reverse sequence to the “PULL” action of the exercise.

IMPORTANT!!!  There is a PAUSE in the movement of the legs until the hands move past the knees.

**HINT**  Think  ARMS, BACK, LEGS when moving back to the starting position.
