What classes do you teach at Island?

BODYPUMP, BODYSTEP, BODYVIVE

 

How long have you been teaching classes, both in general and at Island?

Since March 2014

 

What training or conference have you attended recently?

Recently attended the BODYPUMP Advanced Instructor Training (AIM 1) in March.

 

Why do you teach group fitness classes?

I love the energy and feeling of community that comes with group fitness - a team of people that gather to support each other and push each other.  There are few places where you can let your guard down, get sweaty, make grimacing faces, maybe even dance a little, all while being pushed to a place you didn’t know you could go. The fuel provided by a group fitness class helps to keep the “hard work” fun and entertaining.  If people like it, they will keep coming and slowly we will work towards a fitter planet.

 

What is something that people might not know about you?

I have a fear of ice. I fell on ice in high school and was run over by a car. My right leg rolled over by front and back tires. A bit ironic since I ended up moving to the cold tundra of Ithaca.

 

What is your regular job?

Development Director at Cornell Hillel

 

What do you do for fun?

Run!  Workout and practice.  Play with my children outside. Cook.

 

What is your best fitness advice?

Just try it.  You won’t know if you like doing something or even excel at it if you haven’t at least tried it once. After you’ve tried it, you can always build upon it.
