Trainer Tips with Kelly Chase

I want to say hello to my Island family and friends. I miss you all dearly, and it has been a difficult few months away from everyone. We are hopeful to be able to re-open very soon, but even then, I know it will take some time before we may see all of your bright smiling, and albeit sweaty faces at Island.

We have been trying to share different workouts for our members and the community to be able to do at home, and we hope everyone is doing their best to maintain their fitness and their sanity through these difficult and unprecedented times. I know I have been through my own struggles, being at home trying to work, and keeping the kids motivated to do virtual learning and stay active, even with a weekend of snow in May!!

Many of you have reached out directly and have expressed that you haven’t been able to keep up on your own fitness routines while being at home. We all have our own reasons, and all of them valid in our own minds. Some are just trying to survive; some are trying to keep their siblings, spouses, partners, kids, parents, etc. alive. I want you to know it is ok. So, you took a little break from taking care of yourself exactly the way you should or that you used to. Again- I am here to say that is OK. You cannot go back and change the past few months, none of us can.

But, I am also here to tell you that you can start, with a little bit every day, to take back some time for yourself. You can take a few minutes to go for a walk, do some deep breathing, and do some push-ups at the sink while you do dishes for the millionth time today. Start small, and start now. Make yourself a priority for just a few minutes a day, or a few minutes at a time, multiple times throughout the day. You are worth it. And Island, including myself and our amazing staff and trainers are here for you now, but more importantly, we will be here for you when you are ready to return.

Be kind to yourself. Take care of yourself. Take care of those around you.

Practice this meditation, and practice being kind, forgiving, loving and accepting of yourself and others in this unsteady world we are currently living in.

May you be healthy.
May you be happy.
May you care for yourself joyfully.
May you be safe.

Until I see you all again, be well. I am here if you need anything at all.

Best,

Kelly
